Snow activity making your own snow – Countdown to Christmas
In our joint advent calendar, counting down to Christmas with 24 bloggers, today it's time for a snow activity. For lack of real snow I went looking for an alternative. Together with the children I went to make snow.
How and what? Of course you can read that here.
Making your own snow
What could be more fun than messing around with materials? Discover, feel, knead, play, smell and maybe even taste it? Secretly I had hoped that we could already get started with real snow. Unfortunately, it is still far above zero and all that falls here is drizzle. Then we should get to work making our own snow.
If you are afraid to get dirty, don't do this. I can assure you that everything is covered, really everything!
What you need?
- half a pack of cornstarch
- a can of shaving cream
- a tray
How to proceed?
Be the first to do this activity somewhere where it doesn't mind getting dirty. I put my kids at the kitchen table with a tray. The worst mess can be washed away under the tap.
Spray a big pile of shaving cream on a tray and add about half a pack of cornstarch to it. My oldest was allowed to mix it with his hands. Use as much shaving cream as needed to get a bit of a grainy but sticky substance. After some time mixing, you can then knead a ball of the neo-snow.
If you've achieved that you're in good shape. My oldest already liked the kneading. Messing around with your hands and secretly smearing it on everything. (Then again, that was a shame).
When the snow was the right shape Mr. played with it delightfully, kneading snowballs, putting Christmas trees in and a house on top. A real snow sensation without the cold.
Meanwhile I gave my youngest of 15 months a tray with only shaving cream. They had a great time too. She quickly figured out that it was not whipped cream (bah), that it was really fun to smear kilos’of shaving cream in your hair and ears and that shaving cream sticks to everything.
On mom’s table, on chairs but also on your clothes or your toes.
Both children had super fun with this simple snow activity. And mom got to clean up afterwards. The house smelled of shaving cream so I couldn't complain.
Countdown to Christmas
Over two weeks ago I made an announcement about our advent calendar, created by Fleur. Links to all activities are shared daily at the bottom of that article. So you can see all the activities on a central page.
Yesterday you could read at Mama’s with Tea how they made Christmas cards with the kids. Tomorrow Joyce has another fun activity for you. So I would say take a look!
Have you already done activities from the advent calendar? Or do you count down to Christmas in a different way?
