Amsterdam by boat
Amsterdam, my city! I love Amsterdam. I have lived here for a long time and would love to come back, although these days this happens far too rarely. This week I was finally in the center of Amsterdam again.
And not just like that. We visited the city by boat. Together with my family, parents and two friends, we sailed in a private canal cruise in Amsterdam, in an electric boat through the canals.

Our experience with Starboard Boats
Together with my family, parents and my parents’ neighbors, we had a private boat tour of Amsterdam’s canals. In this day and age it’s fine to keep your distance from each other and the skipper and the host of the boat took this into account nicely as well. Our private boat tour was scheduled at 11.15 and arrived at the Herengracht in Amsterdam we saw the boat ‘The Manke Monnik’ already lie. It is a beautiful spacious electric boat, with lovely soft seating, where you can sit indoors and outdoors. On board is a toilet and with a drink in our hands, our boat trip could begin.
The skipper asked us if we had any preferences and if there were any special places along the water we wanted to see, but we let ourselves be surprised.
The canals of Amsterdam
It was a wonderful experience. The explanations given by the skipper and host were nice, but they were not too wordy, allowing us to have our own conversations. We could look around and if we had a question, they had the answers.
It was special to sail under the bridges, past the many houseboats and by Artis. Here we saw giraffes, zebras and elephants all from the back deck of the boat. The boat trip lasted an hour and a half and before we knew it, time was up and we were back on shore.

Starboard boats, highly recommended
We enjoyed, the other half hour on the water was over in no time. The boat trip was so well organized, we were comfortable on the soft cushions and even when it started to splash we were dry and warm. The skipper and host were friendly and professional. To be able to cruise together – in private setting- was fantastic. And is really recommended.
For Amsterdammers too. I thought I already knew a lot about the canals and the houses around them, but I learned a lot more on this day. For all information, options and prices, check out the site of Starboard Boats Amsterdam.
